Richard Cheng is a registered patent attorney in the Intellectual Property Group. He prepares patentability opinions and works with inventors, outside counsel and draftsmen to prepare and file patent applications. He also responds to office actions by analyzing cited references against the claimed invention to prepare arguments and/or amendments to the claims. Richard's work covers many different technologies, including electronics, optics, semiconductor devices, broadcasting and transmission systems, video systems, computing and migration systems, biometric systems, biomedical devices and mechanical systems.


Richard received his J.D. magna cum laude from The State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, where he served as the electronic systems editor for the Buffalo Law Review and senior associate for the Buffalo Intellectual Property Law Journal. He also served as vice president of the Asian American Law Student Association and volunteered as a mentor for the Lawyers for Learning program at Buffalo public schools.
