Coronavirus Relief Act Signed Into Law: What Employers Need to Know

Last updated March 19, 2020

On March 18, 2020, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which was summarized in our prior alert available here, was passed by the Senate (by a vote of 90 to 8) and signed into law by President Trump that same evening. This bi-partisan legislation is effective no later than 15 days following its enactment (i.e., April 2, 2020). Therefore, employers must review their policies and procedures and prepare to respond to and accommodate employee questions and requests related to the leaves of absences precipitated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC will continue to track the regulatory guidance that the Secretary of Labor will issue in connection with this Act and provide updates. If you have any questions about implementing policies relating to this Act, COVID-19 and/or responding to employee concerns, please feel free to reach out to your CSG attorney or the authors listed here.

For more information pertaining to the coronavirus outbreak, please visit CSG's COVID-19 Resource Center.
