CSG Expands Litigation and Real Estate Capabilities

CSG is pleased to announce the arrival of The Honorable Joseph A. (“Drew”) Dickson, U.S.M.J., and Philip A. Markowitz to the firm’s Litigation and Real Estate, Development & Land Use Groups, respectively.

During his tenure as a Federal Magistrate Judge, Drew oversaw an expansive scope of Federal court litigation in areas including intellectual property, antitrust, creditors’ rights, and class action. In his practice with the firm, Judge Dickson will draw upon his wealth of experience to fortify CSG’s strengths in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), mediation and arbitration in class action, intellectual property, antitrust, employment, bankruptcy and creditors' rights, trusts and estates, family law and complex commercial matters. Additionally, he will spearhead the expansion of the firm’s Federal litigation practice, as well as add a critical dimension in disputes involving complex discovery issues as a Court-appointed discovery master, working closely alongside CSG's team of more than 60 trial-tested former federal prosecutors and seasoned commercial litigators.

CSG’s Litigation Group will tap Judge Dickson’s deep understanding of Federal court process in its continued representation of clients in civil and criminal matters spanning a variety of subject areas – including, but not limited to, government contracts, bankruptcy, director and officer liability, the False Claims Act, professional liability and malpractice, and securities law. Additionally, Judge Dickson joins two highly esteemed former judges and a significant roster of skilled, multidisciplinary mediators in bolstering the firm’s comprehensive ADR capabilities. His experience managing the discovery process in a judicial capacity will further prove valuable to clients served by the Government & Corporate Investigations Group facing criminal, civil and administrative investigations and proceedings.

Philip brings more than 20 years of experience representing the transactional commercial real estate needs and interests of his clients – helping them efficiently navigate an array of complex development, investment and leasing matters. His national client roster spans a broad range of stakeholders within the commercial real estate sector, including developers, landlords, tenants, institutional owners, investors, borrowers, purchasers and sellers, and other corporate users of real estate. Philip is deeply experienced overseeing the legal aspects of acquisitions and developments across all real estate asset types, including within the hospitality sector – where he manages the corporate components of these transactions, such as joint venture, franchise and management agreements. He is also particularly well-versed negotiating retail leases.

The addition of Philip’s transactional practice and experience further enhances the Real Estate Group’s senior-level bench strength in acquisitions, sales, leasing, development and financings across the country. His clients will additionally benefit from the Group’s regionally renowned strengths in land use and zoning, development, litigation and dispute management, tax appeals and liquor licensing, as well as the wealth of insight housed in practices beyond our real estate team such as the Environmental, Bankruptcy, Corporate & Securities and Tax Groups.

Over the past twelve months, CSG has remained on its positive trajectory of strategic, measured growth and has added more than a dozen extraordinarily talented attorneys at all levels with the primary goal of enhancing, and adding depth to, existing capabilities, as well as anticipating our clients’ needs and business objectives. The addition of Drew and Philip in two of the firm’s largest practice groups marks the latest in a series of exciting hires demonstrating our deep commitment to doing just that: delivering excellence in service and top-notch insights for the many dynamic businesses and individuals we serve.
