CSG's Mitchell Berkey Named Among National Law Journal's 2021 "Real Estate and Construction Law Trailblazers"

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) announced today that Mitchell S. Berkey, Chair of the firm’s Real Estate, Development & Land Use Group, has been selected as a 2021 Real Estate and Construction Law Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. Mitch was recognized for his role as the architect behind the firm’s truly unique, longstanding Real Estate Roundtables, as well as the visionary driving both the practice’s strategic growth into one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s largest – with nearly 40 attorneys – and its geographic expansion handling transactions in markets nationwide.

With over three decades of experience on all sides of the transaction table, Mitch brings a business-oriented approach to his practice. As an attorney, he advises institutional and entrepreneurial real estate owners, developers, equity investors, debt providers and space users. And, as an asset manager earlier in his career, he was responsible for the oversight of a diverse national real estate portfolio.

Understanding the business value of collaboration, collegiality and interconnectedness among the real estate sector’s key stakeholders, Mitch established the firm’s quarterly CSG Real Estate Roundtable upon joining the firm. The closed-door, invitation-only networking series assembles principals and senior executives from the region’s leading real estate stakeholders to facilitate the exchange of high-level insight not available in the typical industry setting. Behind the scenes, the Roundtables also serve as an outstanding forum for deal-making and as an incubator for relationship building among members of the public and private sectors – often resulting in connections and ventures that may not have occurred otherwise. Due to its exclusivity, the series has become renowned among key real estate players throughout the region.

Moreover, in leading CSG’s real estate team, Mitch has played a central role in growing the practice into one of the area’s largest. He has been integral in attracting dynamic talent directly responsive to clients’ real estate needs, not just in the present term but on a forward-looking basis. While many groups have cut back during the pandemic, clients have continued to entrust and expand their business with CSG’s Real Estate Group – calling for the onboarding of seven new real estate attorneys at the firm since Summer 2020.

A graduate of Binghamton University and Fordham University School of Law, Mitch is a thought leader and active speaker on the most pressing issues facing the real estate industry. He is often asked to share his views as a panelist and to moderate discussion by his peers at real estate conferences across the nation.

Notably, CSG’s Real Estate Group earned the New Jersey Law Journal’s Dealmakers of the Year Award, a recognition of the State’s leading transactional practices, earlier this year.
