Lisa John-Basta Honored Among New Jersey's "Best 50 Women in Business" by NJBIZ

Lisa A. John-Basta, a Member with Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC’s (“CSG”) Real Estate, Development & Land Use Group, has been named a 2021 honoree of NJBIZ’s Best 50 Women in Business Awards program, which recognizes women who are “shattering stereotypes, and the glass ceiling, with the significant impacts they’re making on New Jersey business and the community at-large.”

Lisa joins a number of CSG attorneys recognized by NJBIZ in previous “Best 50 Women in Business” classes – including Susan Reach Winters (2007), Catherine Wells (2009), Michelle Schaap (2011), Rhonda Carniol (2012), Dorit Kressel (2013), Roxanna Hammett (2015), Gemma Giantomasi (2019) and Danielle Corcione (2020).

Lisa adds a critical element to CSG’s real estate team with her more than fifteen years of experience representing both municipalities and private developers throughout the land use and redevelopment entitlement processes. The insights Lisa has gleaned over the course of her career have positioned her among New Jersey’s top land use and redevelopment attorneys and helped clear the way for transformative projects across the State for a myriad of high-profile clients. Her efforts in this dynamic area of legal practice have earned Lisa a nod from New Jersey Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Land Use and Zoning Law, as well as a place among NJBIZ’s Forty Under 40 alumni roster.

Beyond recognition in legal and business circles, Lisa’s thought leadership in the field of real estate development, and the economic growth it helps spur, was tapped in Spring 2020 when she was appointed to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s Restart and Recovery Advisory Council to advise State leadership on economic factors impacted by the pandemic. As a member of the Council’s Facilities & Construction Subcommittee, she has collaborated with numerous industry leaders across its nine subcommittees to help drive the State’s restoration.

Further, Lisa has made her range of insights available to the greater benefit of land use and zoning practice in New Jersey as the first woman co-author of Gann Law Book’s New Jersey Zoning and Land Use Administration, acclaimed as the foremost reference on the intricacies of New Jersey’s Municipal Land Use Law by land use attorneys, land use boards and judges. She is also the co-author of the Municipal Land Use Law Chapter of the Complete Guide to Planning in New Jersey.

Within the greater community, Lisa is a longtime member of the Boards of Directors of the Newark Regional Business Partnership and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Land Use Section. She has also previously served in leadership positions with the Essex County Bar Association’s Redevelopment and Land Use Law Committee and the Essex County Environmental Commission. Additionally, Lisa is an active member of the CSG Women’s Initiative – which provides the firm’s women attorneys with opportunities for personal and professional development – and volunteers her time as a mentor to Seton Hall Law students as they prepare for entry into the practice of law.
