Former SDNY National Security Supervisor Joins Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC
Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (CSG Law) is pleased to announce that Emil Bove, former co-chief of the national security unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), has joined CSG Law as a Member of the firm’s Government and Corporate Investigations Group.
Emil is a skilled trial and investigations lawyer with substantial experience in cross-border matters involving money laundering, foreign corruption and bribery, economic sanctions, export controls, the Foreign Agents Registration Act and 18 U.S.C. § 951, cybersecurity, espionage, terrorism, and international drug trafficking. Emil adds to CSG Law’s deep bench of seven former federal prosecutors from the District of New Jersey and Eastern District of New York — including former U.S. Senator and New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa — and he will contribute to the expansion of the firm’s Manhattan presence.
At SDNY, Emil tried 13 federal cases and briefed and/or argued 18 appeals over nine years of service that was described by an SDNY spokesperson as a “distinguished tenure as a federal prosecutor.” As co-chief of SDNY’s national security unit, Emil supervised many high-profile prosecutions including: Halkbank, a Turkish state-owned financial institution, in an alleged multi-billion-dollar scheme to evade sanctions against Iran; cryptocurrency expert Virgil Griffith in a scheme to evade sanctions against North Korea; Venezuelan president Nicholas Maduro and other high-ranking Venezuelan officials for alleged narcoterrorism and related offenses; Joshua Schulte in allegations relating to the largest theft of classified information in the CIA’s history; and Sayfullo Saipov for his alleged role in the 2017 fatal terrorist attack on Manhattan’s West Side Highway.
Prior to becoming a supervisor, Emil prosecuted a number of cases in the public spotlight such as: former Honduran congressman Yani Rosenthal and former Honduran cabinet minister Yankel Rosenthal for international money laundering; relatives of two former Honduran presidents, two former Honduran congressmen, and several former Honduran National Police, among others, for international drug trafficking and weapons offenses; former Venezuelan Vice President Tareck El Aissami and Venezuelan cryptocurrency czar Joselit Ramirez for alleged evasion of sanctions against Venezuela; Russian intelligence officer Evgeny Buryakov for illegally acting as an agent of Russia in the U.S. while working under non-official cover at a Russian state-owned bank; former FBI employee Kun Shan Chun for illegally acting as an agent of China after being coopted by Chinese intelligence officers; and Ahmad Khan Rahimi in connection with the 2016 bombings in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and New Jersey.
