David M. Dugan Appointed Vice Chair of NJ Supreme Court's District V-A Ethics Committee

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (“CSG”) today announced that David M. Dugan, a resident of Branchburg, NJ, and counsel in the firm’s professional liability, trade secrets and general litigation groups, has been appointed by New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Rabner as vice chair of the court’s District V-A Ethics Committee.

The District V-A Committee investigates, prosecutes and adjudicates allegations concerning violations of the rules of professional conduct for attorneys with offices in the City of Newark. Both attorney and nonattorney/public members comprise the committee and serve as volunteers for four-year terms. As vice chair, Mr. Dugan is charged with overseeing all matters in which a formal ethics complaint has been filed. This includes ensuring a prompt and fair disposition of all ethics hearings and working with the Office of Attorney Ethics to see that the attorney-monitored disciplinary system’s mission is carried out in accordance with the rules and in a manner that fosters the public’s confidence in the bar.

Mr. Dugan will also play in important rule in recruiting new attorney and public members for the 40-member committee while providing formal and informal training and guidance to the committee’s members so they can carry out their duties effectively.

“I am excited to be back in Newark, where I attended law school and previously practiced, and to now work with such a talented, accomplished and dedicated group of volunteers,” Dugan said. “I am also grateful for the response we have received from members of the state and federal judiciary, based in Newark, to our recent recruiting efforts and our requests for recommendations of candidates for the committee. I look forward to continued service on the committee and to working collaboratively with the court and Office of Attorney Ethics in continually improving our disciplinary system.”

Mr. Dugan focuses his practice in professional liability matters, including complex legal malpractice defense for some of New Jersey’s most prominent firms, as well as the representation of court-appointed receivers, restrictive covenant, trade secret, and general litigation. Mr. Dugan has been named a Rising Star in New Jersey Super Lawyers for every year since 2010, and has been awarded an AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell, the directory’s highest ranking of both ethical standards and legal acumen.
