David M. Dugan Re-appointed Chair of NJ Supreme Court's District V-A Ethics Committee

CSG today announced that David M. Dugan, a resident of Branchburg, New Jersey, and counsel to the firm’s professional liability, trade secrets and general litigation groups, has been re-appointed by New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Rabner as chair of the court’s District V-A Ethics Committee.  Dugan has served as a member of the District V-A Committee since 2012, as vice-chair from January 2015 through August 2016, and as chair since September 2016. With this re-appointment, he will continue serving as chair through August 2018.

The District V-A Committee investigates, prosecutes and adjudicates allegations concerning violations of the rules of professional conduct for attorneys with offices in the City of Newark. Both attorney and non-attorney/public members comprise the committee and serve as volunteers for four-year terms. As chair, Dugan is charged with presiding over the committee’s monthly meetings, overseeing all ethics investigations and approving motions for discipline on consent. Additionally, he will be tasked with interfacing with the Supreme Court’s Office of Attorney Ethics and Disciplinary Oversight Committee to see that the attorney-monitored disciplinary system’s mission is carried out in accordance with the rules and in a manner that fosters the public’s confidence in the bar.

Dugan will also play an important role in training and providing guidance to the committee’s 55 attorney and public members in carrying out their duties effectively.

“Serving on the District Ethics Committee during the last five years has been extremely rewarding, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue with this important work for the next year,” Dugan said. “We have an extremely talented group of members both within and outside our State’s bar who are benevolent enough to volunteer their time to ensure that the disciplinary process is complete and fair to all participants. I look forward to continued service on the committee and to working collaboratively with the court and Office of Attorney Ethics in continually improving our disciplinary system.”

Dugan focuses his practice in professional liability matters, including complex legal malpractice defense for some of New Jersey’s most prominent firms, representing court-appointed receivers, and handling restrictive covenant, trade secret, and general litigation. He has been named a Rising Star in New Jersey Super Lawyers and has been awarded an AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell, the directory’s highest ranking of both ethical standards and legal acumen. Dugan was also named to the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Unlawful Practice Committee.
